Honokowai Beach Park

Honokowai Beach Park Maui.jpg
Overview:

Overlooked and underrated, Honokowai Beach Park is one of Maui's best beaches for visiting with children.

It may not have the luxurious aura you'll find in Ka'anapali, but it has something better—a playground and swings that are right next to the beach!

The surf can sometimes be rough in winter, but on most days the barrier reef helps form a natural keiki pool that's perfect for wading with young ones.

Add in the showers, restrooms, slide, and the fact it's directly across the street from a natural foods store and coffee shop, and Honokowai Beach Park is a pedestrian—but practical—beach for visiting with children. Added bonus? It's also within walking distance of Honokowai condos and Ka'anapali North beach.

Good For:

Families with children, chatting up locals, finding food within walking distance.

Not So Good For:

Swimming, diving, feeling luxurious, finding parking on a weekend.

Maui Expert Tip For Honokowai Beach Park

Get here early—especially on the weekends—to beat the wind and crowds.

Weekends tend to get very crowded with birthday parties, bouncy castles, barbecues, and beer drinkers, but weekday mornings are surprisingly laidback and you're well off the beaten path.
Directions and Parking Situation:

Turn at the stoplight where Honoapi'ilani Highway meets Lower Honoapi'ilani Road. You'll drive .6 miles past a couple of strip malls and the park will be on your left. The parking lot is big but it can fill up on weekends.

Facilities:

Showers, picnic tables, restroom, playground, and walking distance from restaurants and shops.
